juNxtaposition is the ‘juxtaposition’ of ‘junk‘

juxt1after years of junking, collecting, and creating, juNxtaposition was formally launched in November of 2005. i am an independent pittsburgh artist and designer, lending my main focus to handcrafting goods from re-purposed found  items. i tend to incorporate an innovative approach to recycling in a time when we have become a throw away society.  my work is dedicated to creating functional art from yesterday’s leftovers, thus doing my little part to keep anything useful out of our ever overflowing landfills.juxt2

i create many one-of-a-kind items with a unique ‘juxtaposition’ of the old and the new.  my work includes art-infused handcrafted goods from re-purposed found items, including old bottles, long forgotten antique typewriters, formica samples and old wood covered with layers of peeling paint. while utilizing items for purposes other than that for which they were intended, i am combining my creative energy, unique prospective and other’s discarded ‘junk’ to design eco friendly goods that are hip and trendy while being appealing, decorative and useful to society.

Cha-Ching Is Coming!

chaching.jpgCHA-CHING Coin Jewelry is the brainchild of Suzy Fiori, a Pittsburgh resident who, several years ago, decided to make a change. After purchasing a pair of Mercury dime earrings, her inspiration came sometime later when she found herself charmed by change she’d received in the islands, Bahamian starfish pennies. Cha-Ching was conceived and soon she began scouring the Internet for exotic and unusual coins and tokens. Before long Suzy had an extensive collection from around the world. She lovingly works with the coins, creating unique jewelry for discerning customers. In the process, she has been blessed by encounters with fabulous people who, she readily admits, would not have impacted her life otherwise. According to her, that is the important bottom line. We hope you have the opportunity to meet her and wear her wares. You will be richer for it!

strawberryluna at the SSW EXPOSED

strawberrylunastrawberryluna is me, and my name is Allison. I am a screen printer & designer raised in Philadelphia, now living in Pittsburgh, doing work under the name ‘strawberryluna.’ I work on art prints, rock posters, bags, well…anything that sits still long enough is likely to get inks upon it. My husband and I work on the designs and then I set to work and print all of my work myself. My posters are real posters, used for real shows, for real bands. Yup!

I print entirely by hand, the super old fashioned way out of a community, artists run co-op studio here in Pittsburgh called Artists Image Resource (AIR for short).

I like smarty-pantses with sharp wits and secretly soft hearts and things that are fluffy-wuffy and/or creepy. I also love to lay in the grass.

To see more of my work and portfolio feel free to peruse my website.

Meet Laura Williams of www.Llambchoppes.Etsy.com

laura-williams-1Hi. I am a local crafter from Dormont Borough, Pittsburgh, Pa. I hand make natural gemstone jewelry sets on memory wire. I especially like to utilize natural gemstones in whole and chip bead form and frequently find myself working with seashells. I have really come to appreciate all gemstones as they have been created by mother earth. laura-williams-2 I often accent my pieces with metal and/or other stones. I enjoy using using memory wire because it is cool and it is a fresh alternative to the more conventional type of chain jewelry design. The memory wire puts a unique spin on the traditional jewelry set!
